Hey y’all! Thanks for stopping in to learn a little about me and perhaps about doula support in general! My name is Meredith, and I was raised in the woods of North Carolina, I was raised in the woods of North Carolina and after many years away, have recently made my way back, once again calling Chapel Hill home.
My heart was set on becoming a doula as early as my first year of college in Washington, DC. Advocacy, feminism, education and emotional support all rolled up into one job? …AND babies?! I had struck gold. I eventually trained and became certified as a doula with Doula Trainings International (DTI) and began my career in Los Angeles. Being a doula in LA wasn’t always easy. What happens when a client goes into labor in Santa Monica while I’m working a postpartum shift all the way across the city? I learned to carry my doula bag with me everywhere I went, always keep my gas tank full, and to never skip a meal! LA toughened me up and taught me flexibility, resilience, and how to stay calm no matter what curveballs birth (or traffic) threw my way.
My philosophy as a doula is simple: non-judgmental support for the whole family as you navigate pregnancy, birth and postpartum. The experience of growing your family is completely unique to you and my job is to support the choices you make, educate you where you need more information, and help you build confidence in your new role as a parent. I will also very likely fall in love with your squishy little babe and ask for updates and photos as they grow from newborns into toddlers—and beyond. 🙂
