Hey y’all! Thanks for stopping in to learn a little about me and perhaps about doula support in general! My name is Meredith and I am back in Austin after four (long) years away. I was raised in the woods of North Carolina, but somehow my siblings and I all landed here in Texas! Catch me on my brother’s renovated bus out in Lockhart, or making mosaics with my art-teacher sister in Cherrywood.
My heart was set on becoming a doula as early as my first year of college in Washington, DC. Advocacy, feminism, education and emotional support all rolled up into one job? …AND babies?! I had struck gold. I eventually trained and became certified as a doula with Doula Trainings International (DTI) and began my career in Los Angeles. Being a doula in LA wasn’t always easy. What happens when a client goes into labor in Santa Monica while I’m working a postpartum shift all the way across the city? I learned to carry my doula bag with me everywhere I went, always keep my gas tank full, and to never skip a meal! LA taught me a lot and toughened me up, and now that I’m back in Texas, I’m ready for all the curve balls babies can throw at us.
My philosophy as a doula is simple: non-judgmental support for the whole family as you navigate pregnancy, birth and postpartum. The experience of growing your family is completely unique to you and my job is to support the choices you make, educate you where you need more information, and help you build confidence in your new role as a parent. I will also likely fall in love with your squishy little babe and request updates and pictures of them as they grow and turn into toddlers and eventually kids. 🙂
